What do you mean by narrating?
Avatar
Speaking to your tulpa, basically.

I’m getting a sense that Luna is still in the phase of talking through communicating intention, rather than full voice. Is this normal?
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/23/2018 4:23 AM
Very much so
Avatar
Ok, cuz I wanted to make sure I wasn’t parroting
4:29 AM
It’s been a long time since I last worked on making a tulpa. Hoping that since I’ve matured I’ll have a better time of it
Avatar
Yes, that sounds normal. We commonly call it "tulpish".

I figured out where Luna was these last couple of hours, and she wasn’t sleeping after all. I checked my wonderland and she had filled the whole dang thing up with books. She said she was going through my memories.
Avatar
How do you feel about that?

Mature, immature, things, blah, stuff.
6:07 AM
That's cool one of you can read.
6:08 AM
Books are long.
Avatar
Being literate is a pretty neat thing, yeah.

Well, one of her strongest characteristics is an insatiable curiosity, so that’s ok. I don’t mind, although it’s weird, cuz now I’m fully aware that she can read everything that I write
6:09 AM
Including my journal

We all know posessed people love to find your journal and read it.
6:11 AM
I'm joking about people I have known.
6:12 AM
I should be in like the lounge.

Why is your name lungs?
Avatar
Deleted User 5/23/2018 6:13 AM
Because it sounded ok to me I guess.
Avatar
Syfar System 5/23/2018 6:13 AM
Thats some post-apocalyptic name right there.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/23/2018 6:14 AM
There's songs, meditations about lungs. Life can seem post-apocalyptic easy.
6:15 AM
Some of us still breathing though dude.
Avatar
Syfar System 5/23/2018 6:15 AM
So its more about the meaning behind it, rather then A PART OF THE BODY.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/23/2018 6:17 AM
It's my screen name for a while.
6:18 AM
I don't have anything profound to say about it right now.

Hah, fair enough.

helloes
11:36 AM
how much should I be concerned about the moral implications of creating more tulpas solely for work?
Avatar
Don't do that...
11:40 AM
Tulpas are people, not tools
11:40 AM
Whatever you need for work, you can do yourself
Avatar
My concern, personally, would be if the reasons you have for creating a tulpa are temporary, such as for work, or with some sort of purpose, such as for work, then you may run the risk of loss of interest over time once the job is done, and you run the risk of setting out walls ahead of time that cannot be passed, which constrains development and freedom.
Avatar
Without creating another human
Avatar
I can't kill myself; though.
11:40 AM
that'd be a problem
Avatar
I think it very well can be moral, but it has its downsides.
Avatar
my idea; basically; is to use tulpas for writing
11:41 AM
because the stories I write from my own POV are way better then those I don't
11:41 AM
my characters aren't as vivid as myself
Avatar
Tulpas aren't characters
Avatar
they can be.
Avatar
They shouldn't
Avatar
that's why it's a moral question
Avatar
Could you make a tulpa, or attempt to make a tulpa, who is characterized and built around the idea that they, as an individual, flip flop or swap between being many other individuals? Like a tulpa with personality states akin to what a host has when they make a tulpa, but with those states being rooted "in" that single individuals tulpa?
Avatar
My answer is that tulpas are people, not toys, accessories, or tools. You can accomplish those things without making another person. Just train yourself to be able to put yourself in other people's shoes in imaginary situations
Avatar
that's what I was thinking about; Reguile
11:43 AM
Lyra; doing that training is literally making tulpas – the way I feel it
11:44 AM
People can write without making tulpas...
Avatar
well; people can write better with tulpas.
Avatar
I think it's an interesting idea. I'm not super sure it is particularly moral myself, but it's a super interesting concept.
Avatar
I think
11:45 AM
that's my tulpa's point of view; at least
Avatar
I can see how tulpamancy could help someone be way more creative and engaged with a story.
Avatar
mmhm..
11:46 AM
I experienced that firsthand
11:47 AM
but I can hardly get into the mindset of someone else
11:47 AM
I'm losing myself quickly
11:47 AM
and then it's not me anymore
Avatar
That said, same advice may go for you here as the new people who come around asking if their tulpa can make them the awesome great person they want to be: It may be better to take the time you would put into forcing, and instead put that time and effort into improving your writing for a more direct and less dubious means to improvement.
Avatar
well; true. but I see that as a way to improve it
Avatar
What do you mean by losing yourself?
Avatar
The tulpa likely won't turn out how you like anyway
Avatar
mm.. if I don't identify with my own personality then it's hard to.. well; be me?
Avatar
Maybe you can make a "servitor"? Or just... practice your writing skills
Avatar
I don't believe in servitors as a concept shrugs
Avatar
Me neither, really
Avatar
Someone here earlier was talking about their experience with tulpamancy a while ago and it sounded a lot to me like that they took tulpamancy and removed part of it, in that they had identity states just like a tulpa might be, but that they also did not have "automatic" swapping between those states like you'd see when a host and a tulpa have a conversation.
11:50 AM
It might be possible to take the "identity states" out of tulpamancy and use that skill to your own benefit, as well
Avatar
as for practising; I've heard this suggestion: make your character write a letter to you
Avatar
without actually making "a tulpa" in the normal way
Avatar
it hit me somewhat hard; as I write letters a lot myself
Avatar
I don't know how you'd go about forcing that, though
Avatar
so if my characters can do the same – how are they substantially different from me?
Avatar
Having a character write a letter to you actually sounds like a forcing technique to me
Avatar
yiss; Reguile; you're getting close to what I thought about
11:51 AM
a distilled version of tulpamancy
Avatar
Stupid corny harry potter sorting hat quote comes to mind
11:52 AM
"It's about the choices you make, not who you are"
11:52 AM
same thing, different context and intent
Avatar
I think that the biggest problem is that the more my characters develop the more I get an identity crisis myself (edited)
11:52 AM
so subconsciously I don't want them to develop
11:53 AM
because that makes me replaceable and discardable just like them
Avatar
that was a very paraphrased quote, by the way (edited)
Avatar
and; surely; I don't like that thought
Avatar
Yeah, that's kind of a bad place to be at (edited)
11:54 AM
I'm not really sure what to say in that situation. I think something like a tulpa that "contains" these personality states/characters/servitors could be a good idea. I think that just doing more, trying to get over your fears, and and pushing to differentiate these characters from you also could be a good idea. (edited)
Avatar
well; I know they're not-me
11:55 AM
I think I'm getting into the philosophical area of "what if I'm only a character of my own writing"
Avatar
sorry, more strongly differentiate until your fears about the above what you just said when I was typing this less strong
Avatar
my violin teacher would love to hear that giggles
11:55 AM
nods (edited)
11:56 AM
some writers like to guide their characters; set the scene and puppet all the things
11:56 AM
I'm not of that kind. I like to observe
11:56 AM
I do the decorations and let the story to unwrap – sometimes to a conclusion that surprises myself
11:57 AM
I never know how my poems are going to end when I write those
11:57 AM
that means my characters need to have the same free-will-illusion flexibility
Avatar
That's pretty cool. Does that technique work well for longer stories in your experience?
